DeVry Shares Stories of Roles He Nearly Landed

During an interview with Soaps.com, the General Hospital actor was asked if other soaps had ever approached him. Who knows, Tucker McCall on Y&R could have been a good fit for him. Moreover, DeVry chatted with Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) and Jason Thompson (Billy) multiple times before the test. He really thought he would fit into the role seamlessly, But, as showbiz goes, the producers had other plans and gave the role to Trevor St. John. The GH star had nothing but praise for Trevor, given their history.

He shared, “I was surprised I didn’t get the role, but I also knew that Trevor St. John was stiff competition.” Additionally, William praised the Y&R stalwart and revealed Trevor was on AMC on his first day as Michael [Cambias]. “It was the day Michael met Kendall in Aspen; Trevor was the bartender.” Then, St. John quickly became popular on One Life to Live just a few months later.

The actor “tore it up at OLL” as Walker/Todd/Victor for a decade before his comeback to daytime in 2022. Furthermore, DeVry noted, “From what I hear, he’s been fantastic on Young & Restless.” But Trevor said goodbye to the CBS soap in June after two years. St. John shared a farewell message on social media, expressing his gratitude for his time in Genoa City.

“As you well know, Tuckers come, and Tuckers go, and so the cycle continues… this Tucker is in his go phase….” It’s crazy to think how deVry and St. John’s careers have intertwined over the years. And if you wonder if DeVry ever broods over the role that got away, here’s the response. “Everything works out for a reason,” he says, “so I’m not one to question the past.”
