Days of Our Lives wrote off Drake’s character earlier this spring when John headed to Greece. He took off to seek closure over his past involvement in Catherine Meleounis’s (Ellie Patrikios) death. However, John made a surprising comeback when Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) stumbled upon him.

They found him in an abandoned warehouse while searching for “Abigail DiMera” (AnnaLynne McCord) last summer. During this time, John played a key role in his son Brady Black’s (Eric Martsolf) storyline. Earlier, Hogestyn’s family released a heartfelt statement on the soap’s official Instagram account, sharing the news of his passing. “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,” they wrote. “He faced his diagnosis with strength and determination. After an incredible fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.”

They added that he was a remarkable husband, father, and actor who cherished performing for the DAYS audience. Drake joined the soap cast in 1986 and was featured in various Peacock specials. In addition, his character, John Black, was a beloved figure in daytime drama. His DOOL character was known for his super-couple status with Marlena.
