Chad is one step closer to finding out the truth about Abigail on Days of Our Lives, now that he and Jack have discovered her empty coffin. But did Clyde just remove her body to mess with Chad or is she really the woman being held hostage in that footage the drug lord was keeping?

That person is, of course, being played by AnnaLynne McCord, who teased whether she’s really Abigail or not to Soaps.com a little while back. It may be some time before we can a definitive answer, but Billy Flynn did share some background about how the story unwound when he spoke with Soap Opera Digest recently.

In the cemetery, Jack and Chad stare into an empty coffin

For one thing, he’s all for bringing Abigail back because of how much he loves her and Chad together, “But personally, for me, it depends on the execution of it.”

As far as Flynn is aware, the idea was started with the temporary writers during the strike. But then headwriter Ron Carlivati and the regular writing staff returned and ran with it. “So I’m just kind of going, ‘OK, whatever this story is going to be, it’s going to be,” Flynn shrugged, “especially with the hand-off from the temp writers to Ron.”

When they brought her back from the dead the last time with Marci Miller taking over, “there was intent,” Chad’s portrayed explained. “The story was planned out how Abigail was going to come back. When Marci started, I knew it was going to be a big story. This time around, I didn’t know what it was going to be.”

Of course, by now, Flynn, McCord and the rest of the Days of Our Lives team know how it all plays out, since they shoot about six months in advance. But it makes sense since McCord revealed that to Soaps.com she was in talks to join the show around when Carlivati and team returned and at first, they weren’t even sure who she’d play.

Of course, now we aren’t sure if she’ll be the real deal Abigail or a fake, but it should be a wild ride getting to the bottom of this grave-digging mystery.
