Having watched soaps for a very long time, we celebrated when General Hospital “killed” Spencer but made it clear that his body hadn’t been found. After all, that meant the door was open for both Spencer and his wildly-popular portrayer, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, to return. As much as we hated to see him go, we took at some some comfort in the fact that Spencer and Trina’s love story would eventually continue.

While that may still happen somewhere down the road, we’re pretty sure it won’t be with Chavez playing the Cassadine prince. Why? Because Netflix just dropped the full trailer for the actor’s much-ballyhooed project — Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story — in which, simply put, the erstwhile Spencer steals the whole dang show. While the miniseries doesn’t debut on the streaming service until September 19, we’re already preparing for the rest of the world to see in Chavez the star we recognized the moment he first set foot in Port Charles.

Before clicking on the trailer below, know that it contains some very adult scenes and language. This is, after all, a project from Ryan Murphy, the man behind such projects as American Horror Story and Dahmer. You’ve been warned…

Earlier this year, Chavez took to Instagram to post the first “family portrait” for the series, featuring him with co-stars Cooper Koch (who’ll play Lyle’s brother, Erik) and on-screen parents Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny.

But wait, there’s more ahead for Chavez. Because as we reported last month, he will also appear in Grotesquerie, Murphy’s other upcoming mini-series, which can be streamed on Hulu beginning on September 25.

Of the project, Chavez shared a photo simply captioned, “Nightmare fuel loading…”

Grotesquerie will take viewers on a journey as a detective and a nun investigate a series of heinous crimes and, in the process, uncover a sinister web that leaves them with more questions than answers.

Clearly, with these two projects under his belt, Chavez is a star on the rise. Which means that while he might at some point return to General Hospital briefly to wrap up Spencer’s story, he’s unlikely to do a long-term gig. This was essentially confirmed to our sister site TVLine back in April, with multiple sources saying Chavez would not be coming back to the soap. Who knows, with Spencer out of the picture, perhaps this will mean new guy Gio has a shot with Trina after all…
