Young & Restless’ Hayley Erin Teases the Twist That Would Send Summer’s Hatred of Claire Into the Stratosphere
It’s safe to say that Summer’s feelings for her cousin on The Young and the Restless are… complicated. Unlike much of the rest of her family, Summer’s had a tough time warming up to and trusting Claire, despite the fact that she’s Harrison’s nanny! It doesn’t exactly help that Harrison was nabbed under her watch, but that all worked out in the end, didn’t it?
Still, there’s a chance that this fraught relationship could get much worse before it gets better — at least if Kyle gets in the middle of it! Now that he’s swapped jobs with the Abbotts and hopped over to work at Glissade with the Newmans, he’s even more in Claire’s orbit than before. And Claire’s feelings for Kyle is something that Hayley Erin very much mused over when talking with Soaps In Depth.
“Kyle’s such a great character and he is multifaceted like Claire,” she noted. “But as far as Claire is concerned, she’s only ever seen kindness and understanding and been given grace by Kyle.”
Claire’s had a traumatic life, raised by a psychopath like Jordan and fed a steady diet of hate and resentment. She’s finding love and acceptance with her true family, but we imagine the pull towards someone who shows her kindness could be hard to resist. Plus, as Erin noted, “it doesn’t hurt that he’s… you know, kind of good-looking.”
No, it does not!
Still the timing just isn’t right for a romance with her employer… but that doesn’t mean it won’t ever be. “While I don’t think her head is there right now,” the actress told In Depth, “there’s definitely the potential.”
And we just know that it would drive Summer absolutely insane. Though there is a chance, albeit a small one, that it would give her the opportunity to see Claire in a whole new light, as a decent person who’s good for Kyle and truly wants the best for Harrison. We wouldn’t hold our breathe, though. These types of romance snafus — especially when it comes to your own family — don’t tend to work out great in Genoa City!
But hey, Claire’s been through a lot, so who are we to deny her a little happiness?
